Orthopedics (dental presentation)

Teeth are an important part of our digestion process. The main function of this body is the mechanical processing of food.

Teeth are an important part of our digestion process. The main function of this body is the mechanical processing of food. Depending on whether well chewed food depends on the whole process of human activity.

In modern dentistry, denture treatment is an important part of dental treatment. The manufacture of dentures does not stand still and constantly offers new technologies, the possibilities of using different materials are expanding. It is difficult to imagine a modern person at a business meeting or at dinner with friends, giving others a toothless smile. Therefore, all our clinics pay particular attention to dental prosthetics, which belongs to a separate area - orthopedics. In Medlaif, dental prosthetics are performed by an orthopedic surgeon.

Types of prosthetic teeth

Denture treatment is divided into three categories: fixed, conditional - removable and removable. Fixed Dentures

Tabs are essentially the same fillings, but made in the laboratory according to individual impressions, usually from ceramics. It belongs to fixed dentures and possesses the maximum accuracy of fixing and a high esthetics. Unlike conventional fillings, the ceramic tab is more durable and completely invisible on the teeth.

Ceramic veneers

It`s fixed dentures in the form of the finest ceramic plates covering the external dental surface. As a rule, this type of non-removable dental prosthetics is used in the smile area in order to correct the shape and color of teeth.

Lumineers or Hollywood Veneers

It`s ultra-thin ceramic plates with which dental prosthetics do not require prior serious dental treatment. Unlike veneers, lumineers can be removed, but the list of deficiencies with which they can cope is very limited.

Dental crown cap

Replaces the crown of the tooth and imitates its natural shape. This is the most common version of this type of denture treatment.

Bridge prosthesis

Design of several dental crowns attached to natural teeth or roots. This is the classic version of dental prosthetics. The adhesive bridge, used as a temporary aesthetic design, can also be attributed to this category.

Dental implant

The titanium “root” is implanted into the bone in place of the missing tooth, onto which the artificial crown is placed.

Removable dentures

It`s made from acrylic plastic, nylon, metal, and combinations thereof. If part of one`s teeth remained in the mouth, the prosthesis is called partial. If there are no teeth left, then it is called complete. A removable denture can transmit chewing pressure both on the gum and on the remaining teeth.

Clasp prostheses

It`s metal frame prostheses, which include fixing and unloading devices, arches and artificial teeth. Clasp prostheses are: with clasps (special hooks) and with locks.

One should know:

With multiple or complete absence of teeth, several implants can be installed on each jaw upon which a fixed or conventionally removable bridge denture will be supported (a conditionally removable denture is called a denture that the patient cannot remove, but the doctor can remove to repair or clean it).

Each option has its advantages and disadvantages, so the doctor decides which option is preferable for a particular patient.

Depending on the situation, implant prostheses can be installed both immediately after surgery and after a few months of waiting.

Materials for dentures

The materials used in dental prosthetics have special requirements. They must be biocompatible with human oral tissues and be resistant to the effects of saliva and food. Materials should not cause allergies, change taste, smell. Their strength, resilience, elasticity and abrasion should be close to the tissues being replaced. In addition, an important requirement is the possible manufacture of dentures from those materials of construction that are as close as possible in color and appearance to natural teeth and gums. Let's take a closer look at each of them.

Composite is a material that is a special polymer, with additives such as special glass, porcelain flour, silica, quartz, etc., to impart certain properties. It easy to restore the damaged tooth with composite, literally "increase" it to a normal state.

Ceramics is light and aesthetic dentures (most often crowns on the front teeth) that completely imitate the shape, color and translucency of natural enamel. With its help, one can hide any defects and destruction of the tooth. Ceramics is the most harmless to the body and oral tissues modern material for dental prosthetics. Ceramics is excellent against microorganisms, dyes and aggressive substances.

Nickel-chrome and cobalt-cobalt alloys are the most common in dental prosthetics. They cope well with their duties on various prostheses, but can cause unpleasant reactions in people with allergies.

In comparison with them, noble metal alloys are harmless to the body. Alloys of gold with palladium and platinum are especially good, which are very durable and resistant to various influences. Long dentures can be made with them, which are very precisely molded and fit perfectly as well as help their ceramic lining to look more natural with its special color.

Titanium is absolutely biocompatible, very durable and lightweight at the same time. Its properties resemble the properties of gold-plated crowns, although titanium slightly loses in aesthetics. But there are no complaints on the side teeth to titanium alloys.

Zirconium oxide is a material with extremely high strength and safety for living tissues. It has long been used in medicine. Its silver white color is great for aesthetic prosthetic purposes.

Modern technologies using a laser make it possible to achieve the most accurate performance of a dental crown made from this material, and hence its better fit to the tooth.

Plastic prostheses have been used for a long time and their properties are well known. Dental plastic, unfortunately, loses to all modern materials for prosthetics and strength, and aesthetics and durability. It is able to absorb odors, dyes, which gradually change the color of plastic prostheses, even if one use the most common tea, coffee, berries, etc. The pores serve as a good environment for the reproduction of bacteria, which can only be controlled by careful hygiene. Otherwise one will not avoid inflammation of the gums, an increased risk of caries and pulpits.

But removable dentures remain very popular, and therefore plastic has to be used very often. And yet to replace it appeared such a modern material for prosthetic teeth, like nylon. Nylon prostheses, unlike their imperfect predecessors, are simultaneously at the same time flexible and durable, which allows them to withstand mechanical loads and not to break. In terms of allergy, nylon prostheses are safer; they also do not collect microorganisms on themselves. The aesthetic appearance of nylon prostheses is based on their translucency and disguise as the color of the gums, and invisible to prying eyes by fixing supporting structures made of the same material as the prosthesis itself.
